The supporters of the New Car Dealers Foundation / Special Olympics BC Auction have had a huge impact on lives and communities throughout our province. You have helped thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities experience life-changing empowerment, friendship, and health benefits through sport. You are incredible champions of those who are too often left behind and forgotten. We recognize and appreciate all you have done.
We know that Covid-19 has impacted everyone and these are trying times. Special Olympics BC does not want to add more burdens to the people we appreciate immensely. In order to avoid further taxing Dealers and auction donors who already do so much, and are trying to do the right things for their own people and communities, we are making the difficult decision to pause the launch of 2020 New Car Dealers Foundation / Special Olympics BC Auction.
While the auction itself is online (and thus in accordance with the social distancing recommended by public health officials!), we fear that the current circumstances mean that the auction may be causing stress for donors and bidders who so generously support this event. Today’s circumstances also mean we would not be able to feature the auction’s donors and sponsors in prominent ways as so many are rightfully distracted by so many other things. We feel we must postpone the auction in order to alleviate stress and to respect the donors, sponsors, and bidders who have been so generous to Special Olympics BC.
While we are disappointed and challenged by this decision, it is the right and only thing to do. We look forward to launching the auction as soon as appropriate and making it bigger and better than ever. We will continue to work on the auction in preparation for launch, and will keep you posted on next steps.
We thank you for your support, and we wish the very best for you and your loved ones in these fast-changing times.
